Top Trend Alert...Rattan

When I was little, Mum had a rattan laundry basket with a lid. I wish I had a photo, it was actually quite awesome and when I moved out of home she allowed me to take it with me (I'm guessing because it wasn't actually something she wanted to keep in the house anymore!) So that was about 17 years ago and I sort of wish I still had that rattan basket now!

Rattan has come a long way since that basket too!

Here are my choices of Rattan for the here and now.

The Nito Vanity Large Basket in White Wash is perfect to update your laundry room

They also stock the cutest Footstool, the Nest Small Footstool

I can see this one in a beautiful sunroom, Spence and Lyda have it all with this Snug Chair Rattan

and finally the Braga Floor Lamp from Jimmy Possum, a gorgeous handmade lamp.

Now if you think rattan is just for summer then think again, just add a sheepskin or throw rug in beautiful jewel tones and you're good to go!

Be In The Know..Top Trend Alert ...Global Decor

Today's trend is Global Decor. By that I mean any decor that comes from somewhere other than your country, think African Art, Fabric throws from Mexico or Turkey or Moroccan Tiles, it's all bang on trend!! Here are my favourite finds!

Layer your rugs by adding this Zemmour Rug, just remember to keep a theme, keeping the colours similar and anything goes, try adding a rug with a different texture.

How about a Tomato Ottoman....yes it actually looks like my favourite fruit!

This Ziggy Cushion is hand woven in India

And the last one today because I need to get back to my study is the Argentinian Wool Poncho/Throw, it would look perfect in a monochrome room.

If your interior style is : Natural

People are increasingly discovering the benefits of sustainable living and seeing the effects of our actions on the environment. If you think your style is 'Natural' you probably love wooden furniture and accessories, linen, wool and silk are also within reach. These materials can sometimes cost a little extra but it is worth it in the long run.

Be In The Know....Top Trend Alert for 2016

Welcome to the first Trend alert for 2016,
I'll be doing one each month of the year to bring you in on the trends that are happening right NOW.
Today's trend is the Artisan or handmade trend. They are all over instagram and pinterest, people coming up with amazing crafts and selling them at places like Etsy . If had the time I would definitely be making all sorts of things right now myself...maybe selling them and then using the money to buy my favourite things on Etsy!!

Today I'll share a few of my favourite handmade items to buy right now!

This is my own little purchase from a shop called Cheese Before Bedtime

I've just discovered this one too

This Handmade Ceramic Planter is from a shop called Kabinshop

Just look at this ceramic hand with gold tipped fingers...so cute! It is by a shop called Mudpuppy

The Jungle Tiger Cushion Cover is So Right Now! Made by Esther Sandler

And it might be summer here in Australia but it will soon get cooler and this Handwoven Blanket will be perfect, from Texturable Decor

And the best bit about buying handmade is that you are most likely supporting a small business who work long and hard to bring you something amazing that isn't mass produced!!

The lucky two colours are Rose Quartz and Serenity. See them over at Pantone

Spotlight on Last Minute Christmas Decorations Trending for 2015

Christmas World in Germany is the world's largest annual trade fair for all things christmasy!
This year there were 911 exhibitors, thats a fair few decorations.

I've done most of the hard work for you and tracked down some of the best decorations online that are right on trend, there's still time but you better be quick because the big man in red is on his way!

The first trend is the icy/frosty feel, how about these  icicles and these
Star Glitz & Glam Silver from David jones

Birds are right up there in the beauty of things and so is yellow gold, why not combine the two with this Glass Hummingbird

Vintage pastels are everywhere, like this Vintage Wonder Spotted Toadstool

My personal favourites are the quirky animals like this Hanging Wool Fox

If you love all things natural then you must visit Adornare to see decorations like this Sledding Santa Incense Smoker

It's a bit of a tradition for me to buy a couple of new decorations every year, it creates memories and eventually I can hand them down to my children and hopefully the tradition will continue. This year I decided on a very simple silver decoration, basically my husband replaced our tv which had  black rim with one that had a silver rim....I hated it, but if the christmas decoration matches then it will all be o.k!

The Remarkable New Wallpaper Trends, My Favourites.

My husband and I bought our first home back in 2006, it was an 1830's hop farmers cottage in New Norfolk, Tasmania. Look at the cuteness of it!

My eldest son was just five weeks old at the time and wow do I remember steaming and scrapping all the disgusting wallpaper off those walls, sadly I dont have a photo but the top layer was peachy pink with huge clusters of florals and some crazy belly band type contrasting band half way up. Then under that was another WORLD of about five layers of the stuff!
Wallpaper was considered daggy and painting was the only way to go....but NOW...well NOW it is amazing, there is so much on offer and it's even TRENDY.... AND alot of them peel right off when you want to change it so no more scrapping and steaming required!
Here's a little link party to my favourites :

Metallics are in, think luxurious spaces , add a touch of fur for that finishing touch!

image sourced from Wall Candy Wallpaper

Then what about a bit of texture, most of these can be painted , but I love them just as they are:

Oh me oh my, this one is screen printed by hand

One of my favourite and very new releases are by Justina Blakeney

You can create your own garden party with this one...why not?!!

And my absolute favourite which features in my drawing:
