Unique displays and vignettes in your home, anyone can do it!

Do you go to other people's houses and come away in awe at the way they arrange random things and it just seems to work?
I'm going to give you a little insight into arranging your prize posessions to make them pop in just a few steps.

1. Gather all your display items into the one place.

2. Start arranging them into groups, one group might have items with all the same colour, or items in the same category such as candles or art. Maybe you have a couple of things similar but add something of contrast to make it work. For example you might have two vintage black vases that look quite boring but when put together with that crazy green frog ornament your uncle gave you for your birthday (the one you know you can't get rid of)....... well, it works!

Think about adding things of the same texture, or the same colour but in different textures, something shiny with something matt etc etc do you get my drift?

3. Now that you have your groups, you need to think about where you will place them.
Play around with placement, you will know when you have it just right!

4. Lastly don't think you need to display all of your items at once. If you run out of spaces, you can store away the left over groups of objects (in their groups of course) and rotate them in say a months time.
Changing things up will keep your spaces exciting and means you don't have to spend money on new display items unless of course you see something you love and must have it, then you have the fun job of fitting it into another exciting display!

Check out these examples below, all images are from my own displays.

The theme below is of course the colour black, it is repeated in the art, again in the deer, the little boy and the tiny figures.

Or here the little boy is used again. The theme flows with the use of rectangles in the photoframes with the rectangular mirror turned on it's side and the rectangle marble plate.

Here we have the same entryway  with the same chest of drawers . The height of the plant on the left is a contrast to the little plant on the right and the colours from the stack of books are repeated in the art.

Nature can be amazing, here autumn leaves and pods were collected and this was the result!

No need to take yourself too seriously either , this simple spot made for keys tells a bit more of a story.

Sometimes just a simple kokedama plant all by itself can make the biggest impact.

There is no right or wrong way to arange your space, just have fun, play around till it works for you, because after all, it is YOUR space.

Spotlight on Last Minute Christmas Decorations Trending for 2015

Christmas World in Germany is the world's largest annual trade fair for all things christmasy!
This year there were 911 exhibitors, thats a fair few decorations.

I've done most of the hard work for you and tracked down some of the best decorations online that are right on trend, there's still time but you better be quick because the big man in red is on his way!

The first trend is the icy/frosty feel, how about these  icicles and these
Star Glitz & Glam Silver from David jones

Birds are right up there in the beauty of things and so is yellow gold, why not combine the two with this Glass Hummingbird

If you love all things natural then you must visit Adornare to see decorations like this Sledding Santa Incense Smoker

It's a bit of a tradition for me to buy a couple of new decorations every year, it creates memories and eventually I can hand them down to my children and hopefully the tradition will continue. This year I decided on a very simple silver decoration, basically my husband replaced our tv which had  black rim with one that had a silver rim....I hated it, but if the christmas decoration matches then it will all be o.k!

Exclusive Look at Art in My Home.

Part of my interior design course includes drawing one point perspectives of spaces. You know, the drawings where everything is in proportion and very 3D like?!
Well it turns out I LOVE doing them. In fact, I love art in general and most of the art in my home is created by myself. I have no idea how good it is but I like it and my husband doesn't protest against it so it's ok for us!
So let's share, and if you have any art you've created yourself in your home, I'd love to see it!

This is a drawing of an old chair in my lounge, we've had the chair for years but it looks great with a few throw rugs!

This drawing is my dream industrial bedroom created on a break from study because I couldn't get enough!

I created this for my daughter, not my usual style but she adores it!

And this one to match!

Then there's this, I bought this from an etsy shop years ago, it reminds me of my husband when we first met! By the way, if you love the tiles as much as I do, they are handmade, you can buy them here

And finally, these were created by my second son , the first was based on a book he read at school, he seems to have the creative blood, he was seven when he made it and gave it to me for mothers day awwwww.

And this was based entirely on his imagination while he was watching me create some one point perspectives, I love it so much!

The Remarkable New Wallpaper Trends, My Favourites.

My husband and I bought our first home back in 2006, it was an 1830's hop farmers cottage in New Norfolk, Tasmania. Look at the cuteness of it!

My eldest son was just five weeks old at the time and wow do I remember steaming and scrapping all the disgusting wallpaper off those walls, sadly I dont have a photo but the top layer was peachy pink with huge clusters of florals and some crazy belly band type contrasting band half way up. Then under that was another WORLD of about five layers of the stuff!
Wallpaper was considered daggy and painting was the only way to go....but NOW...well NOW it is amazing, there is so much on offer and it's even TRENDY.... AND alot of them peel right off when you want to change it so no more scrapping and steaming required!
Here's a little link party to my favourites :

Metallics are in, think luxurious spaces , add a touch of fur for that finishing touch!

Then what about a bit of texture, most of these can be painted , but I love them just as they are:

Oh me oh my, this one is screen printed by hand

One of my favourite and very new releases are by Justina Blakeney
